Der 49-Jährige aus Borken blieb beim Longines Balve Optimum mit Priam du Roset in vier Umläufen ohne Strafpunkte. Das gelang auch dem Silbermedaillengewinner Maurice Tebbel (Emsbüren) mit Chacco´s Light. Im abschließenden Stechen gegen Ehning um den Titelgewinn kassierten die beiden dann aber einen Abwurf. Bronze sicherte sich Maximilian Weishaupt (Jettingen) mit DSP Omerta Incipit. Spannend bis zum Schluss blieb es bei der Deutschen Meisterschaft im Springen. Zwei Paare schafften es über vier Umläufe fehlerfrei zu bleiben – damit war klar, dass es ein abschließendes Stechen zwischen Marcus Ehning und Maurice Tebbel geben würde. Ehning ging mit seinem Plot Blue-Nachkomme Priam du Roset zuerst an den Start und wählte die richtige Taktik: sicher auf Null. „Auch wenn ich jetzt fast 50 bin, ist so eine Meisterschaft doch immer was anderes, da ist man nochmal mehr angespannt, vor allem wenn man die Chance hat, Deutscher Meister zu werden“, sagte Ehning nach seinem Ritt. „Priam du Roset ist unglaublich auf Null, aber das Stechenreiten müssen wir noch ein bisschen lernen.“ Nicht alles an Tempo rauszuholen, zahlte sich aus: Mit ihrer fünften Nullrunde sicherten sich die beiden am Ende die Goldmedaille. 21 Jahre ist es her, dass Marcus Ehning seinen letzten DM-Titel gefeiert hat, damals noch in Mannheim mit seinem legendären Fuchs For Pleasure. Auch mit seinem zwölfjährigen Priam du Roset verbindet ihn eine besondere Beziehung: „Ich habe ihn seitdem er vier Jahre ist. In den letzten Jahren hat er eine unglaublich gute Entwicklung gemacht. Er ist jetzt genau im richtigen Alter und ich bin froh, dass ich ihn habe.“ Seine zweite Silbermedaille bei Deutschen Meisterschaften feierte Maurice Tebbel. Bereits 2020 stand er auf dem Podium, in diesem Jahr wäre es für ihn und seinen selbstgezogenen, neunjährigen Oldenburger Hengst Chacco‘s Light (von Chacco‘s Son) fast der Titel geworden. Mit deutlich höherem Grundtempo als Ehning waren die beiden im Stechen der Goldmedaille nah – dann fiel am letzten Oxer die Stange. „Es fühlte sich an, als wenn wir heute gar keinen Fehler machen könnten“, erklärt Tebbel. „Hätte ich mir zum letzten Sprung einfach ein bisschen mehr Zeit gelassen, wäre sicherlich nichts passiert. Das ist natürlich mein Fehler. Mein Pferd sprang überragend, er ist neun Jahre alt, vier Nullrunden – das ist Wahnsinn. Ich habe schon viele gute Pferde geritten, aber so ein Pferd wie Chacco‘s Light, das gibt es nicht so oft auf der Welt. Ich bin dankbar, so ein Pferd reiten zu dürfen.“ Die Bronzemedaille ging an Maximilian Weishaupt mit DSP Omerta Incipit. Die beiden kassierten lediglich in der ersten Wertungsprüfung am Freitag einen Abwurf. Mit zwei fehlerfreien Ritten und der etwas schnelleren Zeit am Finaltag setzten sie sich vor Max Haunhorst und Carlo. „Balve ist immer etwas wegweisend für die Saison. Ich bin natürlich super happy, dass es so gelaufen ist“, sagte Weishaupt nach seinem Medaillengewinn mit Blick auf die weitere Saisonplanung. Auch Co-Bundestrainer Marcus Döring zog am Ende der Deutschen Meisterschaften ein positives Fazit. „Ich glaube, wir haben hier die ganze Woche großartigen Sport gesehen, spannenden Sport bis zum Schluss. Spain’s Mariano Martinez Bastida with Belano vd Wijnhoeve Z took third on home soil. These results move Maher to first position in the Western European League and Ehning to 12th. Thirty nine riders competed in the first round with just 10 moving to the jump off. The line up included two Spanish riders, Mariano Martinez Bastida with Belano vd Wijnhoeve Z, and Teresa Blazquez-Abascal with Nasa de Toxandria who were jumping on home turf in front of a very supportive crowd.
