Today we saw Marcus Ehning and new partner Coolio 42 win the sixth leg of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ in Madrid with Verona’s winner and Olympic champion Ben Maher and Enjeu de Grisien taking second.

Spain’s Mariano Martinez Bastida with Belano vd Wijnhoeve Z  took third on home soil. These results move Maher to first position in the Western European League and Ehning to 12th.

Thirty nine riders competed in the first round with just 10 moving to the jump off. The line up included two Spanish riders, Mariano Martinez Bastida with Belano vd Wijnhoeve Z, and Teresa Blazquez-Abascal with Nasa de Toxandria who were jumping on home turf in front of a very supportive crowd.

The remaining eight riders included Verona’s winner Great Britain’s Ben Maher with Enjeu de Grisien, Stuttgart’s winner France’s Kevin Staut with Visconti du Telman, and fellow French riders Jeanne Sadran with Dexter de Kerglenn, Olivier Robert with Iglesias D.V, and Julien Epaillard with Donatello d’Auge. In addition, Brazil’s Pedro Veniss and Boeckmanns Lord Pezi Junior, Germany’s Marcus Ehning with Coolio 42, and World No.1, Sweden’s Henrik Von Eckermann and Calizi competed in the final round.

New partnership for Ehning

“I think you could see in the jump off I tried everything,” said Ehning. “This is a new horse and I’m really proud of him. I didn’t expect to be the fastest but I’m more than happy. It was unreal for me, I didn’t expect it. I’ve only had two jump offs with him in my life…he’s an amazing horse.” 10 year old gelding, Coolio 42, competed with Ehning for the first time in Riesenbeck in September this year with Madrid’s win being the first for the partnership.
